Cruise highlights

Athens, Greeece

Nowhere is this reminder of a glorious past more evident than the Greek capital Athens. This bustling, cosmopolitan city is served by Piraeus port and is a regular stop-off on many Mediterranean cruises. It’s a vibrant mix of ancient and modern, and you can experience both by walking all or part of the Grand Promenade, a pedestrianised walkway (legacy of the 2004 Olympic Games) that meanders beneath the Acropolis and connects many of the prime archaeological sites that grace central Athens, as well as dipping into upscale shopping destinations (Ermou Street) and trendy districts such as Gazi-Kerameikos.

Mykonos, Greece

One of the most visited Greek islands; Mykonos cruise port is a jewel in the Aegean Sea, famed as a vibrant and cosmopolitan destination. It is one of the most visited islands in the Aegean, yet still retains much of its picture postcard beauty. Mykonos effortlessly strikes a balance for visitors with a mix of lively bars and restaurants in the most populous areas, with nearby areas of tranquillity, outstanding natural beauty and rich history. The Town of Mykonos is a hive of activity with some of the most famous landmarks such as Little Venice, famous for its picturesque medieval two and three storey houses which stand like a colourful wall against the sea. Mykonos is also world famous for its beaches. Kalafati Beach is a prime example with golden white sand lapped gently by a crystal clear sea.

Heraklion, Greece

The proud city of Heraklion is the modern capital of Crete, largest and most ruggedly beautiful of the Greek Isles. Just along the coast, you'll find the scrupulously renovated remains of Knossos, the Palace of King Minos and the island's capital under the Minoans. Here, the endless maze of salons, staircases and courtyards gave rise to the legend of the Labyrinth, housing the evil Minotaur at its heart. See the legend come vividly to life!

Gythion, Greece

Gythion itself is a traditional Greek fishing port, packed with shops, tavernas and authentic old buildings. But its main draw for visitors lies an hour – and several hundred years – away, in the abandoned city of Mystras. Known as the ‘Byzantine Pompeii’ and best discovered on the Mystical Mystras shore excursion, the mountainside settlement rises beyond the ruins of ancient Sparta (where a stop on the tour is also made). It is an eerily well-preserved network of medieval homes, palaces and churches, with rare 14th-century frescos to be found inside some of the grandest.
